When we breathe, we breathe tree
Recall a memory of an experience you have had with a tree that was special. You may have climbed it as a child, or it could be a tree you sat under to escape the world.
See the tree in your mind’s eye. See it as separate to you.
Consider now that you and the tree breathe together. Light from the sun, converted by the magic of photosynthesis, becomes oxygen that you breathe. You breathe because of the tree. You breathe tree.
Now, think of the trees planted in your local area. The ones you pass without really seeing. Imagine if you saw and experienced them as your breath. Extend this to seeing them as essential to your health. Not just shade, not just home to so many creatures that are essential to our existence, not just clean air and thermo regulation. Essential to your mind, body, spirit existence.
You and the tree are one.
The tree does not need humans, but we need trees.
We have constructed a world where humans can destroy the world in one move. Indeed, we are destroying the world now.
We have constructed a world where the tree is not seen as part of us but a thing of utility, where the only thing we measure in tree is its usefulness to our balance sheet.
In so doing, we disassociate our relationship to tree, and forget, when we breathe, we breathe tree.
