Who has the right to rights
Asks Mahmoud Khalil from his prison|detention centre in Louisiana after being arrested for being an advocate for the Palestinian cause. An advocate against the taxpayer-funded bombed and slaughtered women and children.
Who has the right to rights?
The US attorney general, wearing her cross for all to see, says that Abrego Garcia’s wife and child are better off with him gone, disappeared into an El Salvador gulag.
I watch her speak these words to the camera, and I wonder how a human becomes so evil. No evidence produced about the charges laid upon Garcia. No due process. Just sheer cruelty.
Who has the right to rights?
Human rights.
The problem is if it is not all-human rights, then whoever gets to not have rights today most likely will not be the same people who get their rights stripped from them tomorrow.
People who think they are safe are not safe.
All human rights, or no-human rights.
Everyone at least should get a hearing, a place to speak up in defence against the accuser.
Perhaps I am confusing the people in the rapist felon’s administration with the ability to be humane. In my confusion, might I be missing that these people see the ‘others’ as less than human? As animals to be discarded.
I struggle to understand how easily they can laugh and smirk and plan to capture anyone they do not like and send them into an eternal black hole in another country.
We cannot ask for, or demand our rights, unless we extend the same rights to all others. For if we do this then we are the hypocrites.
