Why I write
Every day, for 2,625 days, I write.
Why do I do it?
Primarily, I write to sort my thoughts. I have an idea or a thought, and it needs shaping, unpacking, interrogation. I write it out.
Secondly, I write because I want to provoke something in the reader. I am not seeking agreement every time. I like pushback, a challenge to my thinking, a different perspective. I want you to think, feel and ask a better set of questions. If I write something that moves you, be that moves you to act, moves you to reconsider, or moves you to challenge me, then I am happy with my writing.
I do not write to seek fame. If that had been my goal, I would have given up long ago. My writing goes out to an email list and is posted in many other places, so I do not really know how many people read what I write.
I see my writing as a signal into the field. I hope it reaches those looking for the signal.
My writing is an enduring statement of my being and my evolving self. The who of me who began writing 8 years ago is not the same person writing today. This is the point, the arc of my development, thinking and expanding being captured, I hope, in words.
I am grateful to every single reader. Against a backdrop of overwhelming choices of what to read, people who choose to read my words are treasured in my heart.
Thank you for being here. Your thoughtful and respectful feedback, pushback, comments and suggestions are gratefully received.
