The mushy protected spaces of vulnerability
To be truly intimate is risky.
We must allow ourselves to be seen. All-seen. The shadow and the light.
Our brilliance and our BS.
All walls and protections down.
Sometimes, if we have surfaced from trauma and low-trust environments, this takes time.
Intimacy deserves time. And space.
The complimentary pair of vulnerability is connection.
Something we long for.
The path is intimacy.
To be deeply connected to others and ourselves we must sink into the mushy protected spaces of vulnerability.
One of my favourite quotes, from a Course in Miracles, is, In my vulnerability I become invulnerable.
When I have nothing to hide, no shame, I am unable to be attacked.
