Finding common ground
In a world of amplified division, imagine if we asked people who vote differently from us to share their life stories and journeys to this decision.
When I hear words of hate toward others, can I ask to understand where that hate comes from? Can I inquire as to the stories within the stories that inform that belief?
Rather than react with – how do you think or believe like that – without really seeking to understand them, might I actually seek to understand them?
This is the hard and true task of finding common ground. It requires genuine interest, patience and a space for compassion.
