The killer app of life. Superiority

The killer app of life. Superiority

I am writing this article from a National Park just north of Port Macquarie.

We are camped right beside the ocean. Life has been pared back to simplicity.

Building a fire. Preparing food. Walking the beach. Surfing. Fishing. (Tony)

There were dingo tracks on the beach this morning.

I did not need a holiday, I said, before we arrived. But I am having afternoon naps.

How easy is it to forget that the big work of systems change challenges our biology and that taking time to restore and replenish in Nature’s embrace is not optional.

I watch the world explode from my seat by the beach, topknot pidgins at my feet, the early morning sun warming after a cold night. The juxtaposition is almost disembodied in experience.

Surrounded by such beauty, I wonder at the stupidity of man.

The tree beside me is a glorious living system deploying technologies we humans have yet to duplicate.

One of them is photosynthesis. Turning the light gifted from the sun into food. 100% the reason any living creature exists.

But we price this tree at fractions of cents of its worth, claiming timber utility value only.

Hubris. Arrogance. Superiority.

Foolish beliefs held by little boys in big suits.

The killer app of life. Superiority.

Meanwhile, the tree does its thing. And we pay it no heed, as we kill, maim and destroy for more power, more superiority, more more.
