Strength with age

Aug 31, 2025

Strength with age

It is my birthday. This week in the gym I dead lifted 70 kgs, one and a half times my body weight. I pushed thirty kgs above my head.

It is an amazing feeling to be strong and getting stronger with each year.

My passport says I am 65. It qualifies me for things categorised as elder. Yet I do everything I have always done, with as much energy and enthusiasm. I started surfing in my sixties. Not long boards, the aim is to surf shorter, with turns and cutbacks.

Why not?

I feel stronger and fitter than ever.

Health and life are an investment.

Activity, edges, learning. Every day.

Plus fresh live food, good sleep and amazing relationships.

The amazing relationships I have are my wings and ground.

It took nearly 60 years to know profound love. It started with knowing self-love and the full acceptance of the whole of me, warts and all.

As anyone who has made it across the threshold of 60 knows, life goes so fast. It is precious. We spend so much of our youth worrying about idiotic things.

At some point, the approaching end forces a recognition and sifting of what matters most.

Every day matters.

Happy Birthday me. I like who I am and love who I am becoming. The future is potent.
