My heart is heavy this morning
I read about the public version of Trump’s National Security Strategy, and the white supremacist, fascist sentiment it expresses, and I feel sick to the stomach.Â
What is European? What is America? What is Australia?
Are any of these things fixed states?Â
Am I a fixed state? Are you?Â
Are we not all ever changing? Is our desperate clinging to some mythical past state a longing for something no past can restore?Â
Life, this glorious, remarkable animating force that is life, where awe is all that is possible when we pause long enough to contemplate life, does not begin with some life as less worthy.Â
The miracle of life is where Gods are found. This is the reverence, the holy, the wholly.Â
But we forget. And breed hate, cruelty and supremacy.Â
In the surf this morning, dolphins caught their waves, jumping so high out of the water, clearly in a state of exuberant play. Everyone in the surf watching was yelling with delight and joy at being such close witnesses to this reminder of precious.
Yet our children – if they are born to the ‘wrong’ people, or in the wrong place – we starve them, bomb them, rape them, shoot them. Mothers and fathers seeking better for their children at high risk, trying to escape a world created deliberately by the same men who believe in white supremacy, are treated as garbage.Â
Our land, waters and forests are seen as resources to be extracted from with callous disregard.Â
Where did these men lose their humanity? How much hate can a heart bear?Â
Sometimes it is just too much.Â
I gather my reserves, lift my head, and reach out to you and us and those who know there is enough for all, and that the sacredness of all life is worth living for in every possible way.Â
We must fortify each other. And return to the fray.Â
