Finding good
New York City’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor was sworn in yesterday. I am a fan.
Mayor Mamdani said, after winning the election,
I also think that we have found exactly the way to defeat organised money, which is organised people.
Organised people. That is us. You. Me. People who care for all-human justice. People who have the courage to stand against oppression, exploitation, racism, and bigotry, even at great cost.
Valarie Kaur organises people with her Revolutionary Love Project. Against hate, she stands with love. Against horror, she stands with forgiveness. I am a fan.
So many people are doing good and great things. No action is insignificant.
From the independent journalists like Mehdi Hasan and his Zeteo project. To the targeted journalists in Palestine. Their life span is short, yet they keep writing and photographing.
All of our amazing health care workers and the carers. They have more kindness, patience and compassion than I could ever summon.
And to the aid workers around the world. Battling everything. Low or no funds. Hostile territories.
I was reminded today – thank you, Yoshimi – to find the good. Focus on the good. Look for it every day as the antidote to the hate.
See those who bring light, like Gigi and Maria, at my coffee shop.
There was a black bird, an oyster catcher, swimming right by us in the ocean this morning. Not in the least perturbed by the surfers.
