Life

Such a mysterious thread.

From the wonder of an embryo, to the birth of a child, to the final breath.

Unknowable. Infinitely gorgeous.

Precious.

It takes death or the threat of death to have us pause and appreciate the sweet and savage moments of life.

To put aside our petty childish squabbles and perceived grievances.

To live.

Love.

Amplified.

As if each breath is precious.

My father, after 92 years, took his final breath this morning. I do not know where ‘he,’ the animating force of his body, is. No one does. This not knowing keeps me humble.

Against all manner of forces, my father never ever had me question my right to any life or career as a woman. I am fierce because of my father.

If you are anywhere, Dad, may you be at peace. Thank you for your love and care.
