To cultivate love

I wonder how anyone arrives at this comment without questioning its insanity. 

Actually, I think I know. It is baked into everything, and has been for centuries. 

I watched this ten-minute video about Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor’s new book, End Times Fascism. (Very worth taking the time.)

It feels like the madness is accelerating. But there are signs of hope, signs of rejection of this intentional, willful death spiral. 

People voting against the fascist parties. People protesting. Exposé films being made. Activists. Writers and journalists refusing to submit to the oligarch-owned press. Repositories of every video atrocity that has happened in Gaza so the record is kept even as the suppression amplifies. 

There are days, I admit, I could so easily succumb to darkness and hopelessness. Certainly, there are days when I wonder why anyone would bring a child into this world. 

As I write, I try to find the words. Or the feelings. The word bank is empty, the feelings smothered. 

There is this gap, gaping hole. No thing. A dead zone. A little like what humans have done to half the Earth and much of the ocean.

I believe each of us is a fractal of the whole. As we are, so the world is. 

A dead zone. No feelings. Helpless. Hopeless. Subjugated. At the mercy of. 

Not these. I do not want these. 

Into the dead zone, I tender a seed. Cultivate love. Birth beauty. Touch living Earth. 

It is our task, perhaps our greatest task. To refuse to become the mindless, helpless hoards at the mercy of sociopaths who rule the world.

To cultivate love, beauty, aliveness, grace, kindness, dignity, integrity…
