Naming the elephant
We skirt around naming the elephant, as if to do so will protect us from facing it.
We say nice things, we sugarcoat. The aim is to not hurt. To be sensitive. What we are actually doing is prolonging the hurt, extending the consequences of the unnamed.
We obfuscate. We waffle. A politician’s art.
Naming the elephant is a liberation.Â
With the naming comes that beautiful space of knowing we can now get to work on what most needs to be attended to.
We have to name the elephant. The truth indeed sets us free.
What elephants do you need to name? For the moment forget politeness and diplomacy.Â
We do not have time to waffle or sugar coat, to vanilla over urgency.
Name them, clean and clear.
