A seeding behaviour behind supremacy
People telling you what you are feeling, as if they know what you are feeling, or imposing an interpretation of what you are saying and doing without actually asking, is a form of domination.
This is a seeding act of superiority, reinforcing the very systems and structures that profit from supremacy and Empire. All of it.Â
Simultaneously, true communication is the response I get. (This is where we get to take responsibility for the way we show up as a human in communication.)Â
What we must do – must because to not do this is to step over a Little Atrocity – that first act that paves the way to evil, is;
*Call the dominant behaviour. No one has the right to tell you how you feel, because they are not you. How can anyone know how anyone else feels? We can guess, we can propose, but we cannot know.Â
*Also, do not tell anyone how they feel or why they did something, as if you know. You do not know. You guess and assume.
*If someone refuses to listen to you, or ask you what you meant by x,y,z, then a question you might ask yourself is Why would you have this person in your life?
Here is what you can control and do;
*How you respond. We get to choose how we respond to everything. No one except ourselves can take this from us.
*Set a boundary. Point out the dominant behaviour.Â
*Adjust your communication approach if you’re getting repeated responses of a similar nature. Feedback is when we keep getting knocked back, misunderstood, stepped over. Take the feedback and change. Or, stop complaining.
We need to be the change we long for in the world. Not just in how we show up and communicate, but in how we do everything.Â
*The Dare to Care experiential workshop begins in 2 weeks. We give you the tools, processes and practices to communicate clearly and well. Here. https://syntropic.world/dare-to-care/
*PS. Think you do not tell people what they feel or why they do something without asking? I do it, often. Every time I get mad as hell about a politician or tech bros. It is far easier and much more enjoyable to throw blame and accusations and to make assumptions than to take the time to truly understand. That little buzz of righteous superiority. I know it well.Â
