Inhabiting Citizenship

Inhabiting Citizenship

We are all citizens on Spaceship Earth.

One Spaceship. About 250 captains.

These are the thoughts of my mentor of 35 years, Buckminster Fuller.

I happen to share them.

Our global problems require global solutions. The operating system is broken. Atmosphere cancer. Capitalism. Technofeudalism.

We need to unite as one Spaceship to solve these issues. This is the governing stewardship response, where humanity as a whole unites under one council for global issues. A 2022 major advance on the United Nations.

Simultaneously, each of us has agency to act. Action doesn’t require nearly as much resourcing as we have been trained or conditioned to think. Indeed the incumbent system wants us to believe in cannot act.

One citizen inviting other citizens to engage makes a community that grows a culture. This is how change happens. Not from the rulers, leaders, and captains, but from the people.

Between the two, the grassroots people and the wisdom council, we have creative tension. Both need to be healthy, have power checked, operate transparently, and hold collective trust as a core intention, to iterate with change.

This is not easy to do. Yet it is necessary for a world with a future.
