Necessary Polarity
The Great Battle
Between efficiency and surplus, centralisation and decentralisation, regulation and deregulation, and innovation and stability, it will not end until people realise that it is never one over the other.
It is always both.
Polarity is required for existence. Unless the membrane of a cell has the right combination of positive and negative charge, it will either collapse (too much positive) or explode (too much negative).
The pendulum swings. On one extreme, an over-regulated environment feels stifling. An under-regulated environment feels like anarchy.
Just like Goldilocks porridge, there is a both-and – not too hot, not too cold.
To make it a little more complex, the sweet spot is never static or fixed. If it were, it would be dead, as life is moving and dynamic.
This is the challenge of skilled leadership, the type of leadership not seen today.
Steward leaders who are constantly calibrating the spot between too much regulation and not enough. Too much innovation and not enough stability. Too much decentralisation and not enough centralisation.
On the global stage at this moment are people who only see restriction, and not the need for restriction. They want to burn down any form of restriction. When we get the polarities healthy, we create a field for profound innovation, incredible stability, less corruption and enough in reserve.
We get a healthy ecology. Never perfect. Always adaptive.
