Our attention is a sacrament
We begin by remembering that attention is not a commodity. It is a sacrament. Rohan Routroy
Oh my, how we have forgotten the sacrament of attention. Heads down, scrolling. Captured.
Like a stream of energy flowing from us, up into the accounts of the billionaires, and in the process leaving our interiors hollow, dull, numb, isolated and far from the sacred. A breeding ground for mental breakdown.
Our attention is a sacrament.Â
From Latin sacramentum, “a solemn oath, pledge, covenant.” Towards the sacred.
The beauty of the present is missed. And we become lost.
We have agreed to the commodification of our attention. The new digital Empire, extracting as Empire knows how, by colonising, this time our attention as it sucks up our art.
I invite you, me, all of us to consider our attention as a sacrament. And to act as if this were true.
