Rage against the dying of the light

We might map the collective of human emotions to discover the tide turning.

In the wealthy West post-war years there was opportunity and abundance in many quarters, particularly those communities that looked more like their current ruling class.

Wealth, like most everything, lives on a continuum. At the extreme of wealth, behaviour is likely to change. Entitlement, expectation of the continuation of privilege, power and access become normal.

The comfortable middle class expect their comfort to continue. And the poor are left ever more behind.

Apathy and entitlement grow together.

Until the erosion sets in, and the easy flow of the good life begins to fail.

After decades of apathy, we begin to taste anger.

Anger these days becomes the easy-to-access fuel for those nefarious characters who seek to profit off collective rage for their own storytelling fame – no matter if the story is rooted in any semblance of truth or not.

The algorithm thrives on anger turned to rage.

The truth is that no matter the algorithm, we are awakening from our own apathy.

Perhaps rather than getting sucked into someone else’s BS story for their own gain, we might gather our anger and rage against something really worth raging for.

The corruption of our political and business class. The failure of the social contract. The very model of capitalism that needs poverty to exist. The extraction to extinction business models. Exploitation of anyone or anything. The profitable colonisation of our minds and emotions. The devastation we insist on doing to our precious home planet.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Clearly directed and channelled rage is needed now. From our oceans of apathy we might rise up…but let us choose where we direct our deepest passion brought to life through rage.

Choose well. Rage is a precious gift when used wisely.
