Together we dance
Today is Father’s Day.Â
Like all days of celebration, it lands lightly with some and heavily with others.
While many gather with family, others feel the emptiness of families torn apart.
To be a father is, like all roles, changing. Many men find the changes difficult. The identity of maleness is shifting.
Others embrace it. They want greater opportunities to be a present father rather than the mythic hero workhorse.
Humanity and existence are not a straight line. The path is set with incidents and accidents that forge either wisdom or refusal to grow up.
The image of the strong man, cowboy, hero, saviour, rescuer is an immature expression of what the world needs now.Â
We have walked that path. The dominator, warrior, violent warmonger, provider. For too long. Our world is collapsing as a result.
To be able to yield. To fall to your knees in humility. To ask for forgiveness. To grant forgiveness. To seek love and kindness before violence. To hold a moral and ethical code that honours all life. To partner with. To do these things does not make lesser men. This is what makes men whole.
And, when called, to hold a boundary and be fierce. With respect and dignity.
The Taoists understood this. Not too Yang. Not too Yin.Â
Both.
Or in Syntropic World, unity is plural, at minimum two. Polarity is required for existence.
Not the hyper masculine. Not the hyper feminine. We are all, and need both to coexist both internally and in the male-female world we live in.
To allow one to dominate is as unhealthy as to submit to domination.
At the level of Cosmology, there is a cry for balance and harmony. For women and men to walk as partners and co-stewards. For men to find their Yin, for women to find their Yang.Â
In honouring the father, let us commit to raising boys who understand how richer the world is when boys partner with girls as equals and different to them. Complimentary. Fathers, find the softness, the Yin, the surrender and heart. Mothers and women, find your voice and claim your power.Â
Together we dance. And when we do, we create a better world.
