What do you stand for?
If we do not know what we stand for, what we are willing to act for, even if it harms us, or costs us, then we do not know ourselves.Â
What is the final straw that will break you?
What is too much?
Age gives us the opportunity to learn this.Â
We will all find ourselves in a context where we capitulate and surrender our power and agency for something that might appear safer, greater, or more desirable.
It never is. Sacrificing our integrity comes at a price. The price of our soul. Until we are husks of humans. The walking dead. Seeking drama in the scroll.
Know what you stand for. One or two things. Integrity? Justice? Respect? Care? Kindness? Thoughtfulness? Truth?Â
Be courageous in your actions with those one or two things, with consistency.Â
Practice standing for these things. Find your backbone.Â
And your love of self, a strange side effect, will grow as you continue to stand for something every time.
