When lying becomes the way, distrust becomes the faith. Nyadol Nyuon
This is a precessional effect. Those who seek short-term glory from lies as the currency of power pay the price for distrust as the ground.
It makes it worse for everyone. A win-lose game. Cynicism runs riot, as it should in a field of lies.
Our Social Media news feed cannot be trusted. Images, videos and reporting must be held suspect, well beyond the rush to confirm validity.
Someone is profiting from the feeding frenzy of horror that is doctored.
“Is it true?” Has become the most important question we must ask before we jump to opinion.
It is hard to do. Humanity has been addicted to the dopamine hit of drama, sensationalism and horror by all forms of media.
Twenty years ago, emotional intelligence science became a thing.
What we need now is training in how to pattern interrupt our reflexive response to the garbage of our news feed. This includes print media. My 90-year-old father, who does not touch Social Media, is addicted to a newspaper that has become a propaganda machine. His dopamine hit is alive and well using a technology that is hundreds of years old.
Is it true?
Take the time required. Refuse to become a subject matter expert, to proffer an opinion, unless you are in the field, on the ground, at the coal face and can gather direct evidential experience.
