Lie, lie again, then lie some more
The problem with this strategy, as immortalised in the classic children’s fable, the Boy Who Cried Wolf, is that when we lie so much, the moment we tell the truth, no one believes us.
We appeal to the crowds, believe me, but how can they go against a backdrop of incessant lies?
In the end, lies erode every single ounce of trust people have in society, government and leadership.
And into the pool of deceit we add AI and the algorithm.Â
Conspiracy breeds like a mutant bacterium.Â
The truth is lost in the swirling cesspit.
Our ability to discern, make sense of things, and halt our capture by the lizard reflex of deliberately stoked anger, as instigated by power brokers, becomes a skill necessary for life.
Our commitment to speak the truth in every moment, to lead as truth tellers, to refuse to bow to the sword of the bully through supplication and lying, makes us exceptions in a world where lying is the supreme currency of power.
It takes courage and integrity.Â
