In the details
I am a big picture person. I see, with ease, the threads and connections between and within complex systems.Â
My default is to look at the whole and not focus on the minutiae.
Yet there are areas where the minutiae are all I see and hear.Â
The little charges in a relational dynamic. The micro agreements we make, overt or covert. The unstated expectations. The overlaid assumptions. The tone, the words chosen. Our ability to be negligent in our consideration of the effects our words and presence have on others.
This is a skill I have developed over decades. It is still a work in progress. It is why I am a great coach.Â
The relational dynamic is the ground upon which anything successful or of worth is built. Not the idea. Not the brilliance of one heroic individual, which is always a lie, for no one ever does anything without relationship.Â
To create, to build, to change is to be in relationship. With others, with things, with technology, the future and our past.
The quality of the relationship requires exquisite attention to the details.Â
This includes attention to the quality of the relationship with ourselves. Make it a practise to eavesdrop on the conversation you have with yourself. Listen to the words you say to yourself, the tone, the energy, the charge. Begin there with the change. For if you are at inner war, we have no hope of peace. If you are filled with self-loathing, a beautiful world is hard to create.
This is diligent, careful, lifelong work. After we clean up inside, we can walk into any relationship and, simply by no longer being at war with ourselves, we begin to be the change in all the relationships we have with others.
PS. I have just created a simple, powerful online mini-course, Clean Communication, available now for a lifetime of access for $39. This simple yet powerful tool is one of the most loved and applied tools of the Syntropic World toolkit. For more, here. https://syntropic.world/clean-communication/
