Cultivated fear

Cultivated fear

Cultivated fear turns us upon each other. And that is exactly what the powers want.

The desire is for us to be afraid of the other. Those different to us. To stoke fear between humans is the weapon of choice and has been forever.

The immigrant. The person of colour. Those wearing a different attire. ‘They’ are coming to take our rights, jobs, status. To knock us off the rung of the ladder of status we have spent so long climbing.

‘They’ are us in different contexts, often not of ‘their’ doing.

‘We’ are but one heartbeat from being ‘them.’

To recognise the deliberately cultivated fear is the first step towards a return to humanity.

Equal justice for all. Equal rights for all. The law applied no matter status, difference or origin.

We are far from that. As Frank Wilhoit said, conservatism consists of laws where there must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect. When the in-group rules, their best defence against a power shift is to ensure we, the out-group, stay fighting each other.

To keep conquered, keep divided.
