Naming truth
There is an art to removing extraneous words and naming the truth that lies beneath people’s actions, including ours.
This is the meaning of the expression, ‘The Truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.’
What is the truth, using the fewest words, that cuts through the noise?
When we hear these words, we exhale. Yes. This. This is it.
To reach the truth that lies below the word salad, we might ask a series of questions.
These questions are not ones that can be answered in one easy pass. Sometimes they take weeks, or years.Â
The 7 Step Process of Speaking the Truth is one way to go about this. The questions require an inner excavation, a confrontation of our truth that we may or may not see or claim.Â
Like any communication process, learning to speak the truth is a practice toward mastery.Â
It is like sifting all that is not, from all that is.Â
When we do this well, our words become a transmission.
This matters even more in an increasingly complex world, where multiple moving parts collide, and elected officials do their best to obfuscate and lie.Â
It takes time. Commitment. Staying in the question. Sifting through.
Before we rush to summarise, before we jump into the overcrowded noise of opinions and talking heads, we might be wise to seek to understand the truth.
