Confrontation and its complementary pair, truth

Confrontation and its complementary pair, truth

So many people are afraid of confrontation. Perhaps the anger projected back, or words spoken in ways that feel diminishing.

Perhaps it is the desire to be liked, or right, or part of the team that has us avoid confrontation.

Yet confrontation is a necessary part of life.

To stand in front of something, and see it, hear it, digest it.

Until we confront, we cannot move to learning, acceptance or forgiveness.

Truth is uncomfortable. It demands we question our identity, the mythologies that we have built our lives around.

The quest for truth, which is also the key to our liberation, comes with necessary confrontation.

Those who actively seek confrontation as a weapon of power are often masking unreconciled elements of themselves. Easier it is to blame and ridicule another.

Their confrontation is with themselves – to see what they refuse to face in their behaviour.

Few people who choose bullying and aggression as tools of choice have the courage or moral fortitude to confront their own truth.
